Speculative World-Building Book Project
The purpose of this project was to identify a specific context/problem to explore whether it was a social, cultural, environmental, political, or economic, related problem. We had to identify a problem and a situation that has uncertain outcomes. A circumstance that exists now that you can reimagine. The issue I wanted to choose was hate. There is so much hate in this world for anyone who is a different race or speaks another language. Thus began my project. My world will have no official language, so therefore there is no hate. The tool I made up was a pair of glasses. Those glasses would help you speak ANY language you want by telepathy. .
The Final 250 Page Book Version
After creating a quick zine of the tool manual, we began working on the actual book. I prepared my InDesign document and started to jump right in. I think starting was the hardest part. Trying to find my flow in the book was hard. I decided to go to the basics first: what would be my color palette, my type choice, and how I wanted to overall show my world. With the help of my teacher, she gave me valueable help. Not to start with too much text, you don’t want to throw it in someone’s face right when opening the book. This book took many weeks to just make digitally. After that part, it was the crafting part that I really took my time. I did not want to rush anything because it was a bunch of pages I printed out.
