Studying Abroad, Florence, Italy
I had the opportunity to study abroad through the VCU Graphic Design program in Florence, Italy. During the month-long program, we were encouraged to work consistently in our personal sketchbooks and draw inspiration from the city around us, its architecture, culture, and everyday details. Alongside this ongoing practice, we were assigned a final project that reflected our full experience abroad.
For my project, I created a long, vertical illustrated book inspired by Florence’s distinctive buildings, architectural details, and the variety of plants found throughout the city. In addition to the book, I designed three accompanying posters that extend the visual language and themes of the project.
At the end of the program, our cohort participated in a student exhibition showcasing our final work and celebrating our collective journey abroad.
